Weekly Reflection

1.6.17 This week I enjoyed doing my MangaHigh because I got a gold medal. I learnt more food names in Italian. My goal for next week is to get medals on all of my MangaHigh tasks. I think I could improve on my Italian because I need to remember each word I learn. I really enjoyed doing the Word Of The Week blogpost because I like entering the competitions.

Word Of The Week

30.5.17 Word Of The Week: Spectacular Definition: Something beautiful or eye catching. When you see or do something amazing. Type: This word is an adjective. The piece of art in the art gallery was spectacular. It was a spectacular rugby game. The Olympics is spectacular.

RoboCop

29.5.17 World’s Largest Telescope Work has been started on the world’s largest telescope in Chile. The main mirror is 39 meters across and is located on a 3000 meter high mountain in the middle of the Atacama desert. The telescope will start to operate in 2024. At 2012 prices, it would cost about 1.58 billion dollars to do this project. This is 5 times larger than what we use now.

Weekly Refection

25.5.17 Weekly Reflection This week I got one medal on Manga High on a challenging task. I think I could improve on the Recognise quadrilaterals task on Manga High. I have also learned some more Italian and I like to write down what each word means on a doc. I have learned different clouds in a Read Theory story as well. I really enjoyed learning Italian this week because it challenges me to pronounce the different words. I have attempted to complete all of my Manga High tasks but didn’t quite get a medal.

100 Years Old Twins

23.5.17 “Twins!” Maria Pignaton Pontin and Paulina Pignaton Pandolfi are soon going to be 100 years old twins! They were born on the 15th of May and will be able to celebrate their 100th birthday. They are both proud mothers and grandmothers. Maria has 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Paulina has 6 children, 19 grand children, and 16 great grandchildren. The twins are also from Brazil! They took part in the fun shoot of Victoria, Brazil and are local celebrities!

Wolves Have Been Seen In Denmark!!!

22.5.17 “Woof” Woof” This is the first time in 200 years that Denmark gets a wolf pack! Five years ago there had been a wolf seen in Jutland and now in the region there seems to be pairs of wolves walking together. Dr Peter Sunde from Aarhus University has said that they will soon mate. He said that there will be cubs this year or next year. Since the wolves have been walking around together, it probably tells us that they have no pups. If they did have pups, then the male would be on his own hunting for food. Now that the wolves have been spotted, farmers and animal breeders are now worried.

4 Year Olds Starting School!

19.5.17 People are now allowed to enrol their kids before they are five. Kids can now start school from the closest term to their birthday. There is also a bill for this and this is the first update in 30 years. Nikki Kaye is the Education Minister and says that the system needs to flexible about this. This rule has also passed the parliament but misbehaving kids are not allowed to go to school at the age of four.

18.5.17 Current Events Stash Of Gold Found In A Safe What Happened: GOLD!!! A stash of gold in a safe has been unlocked and is worth half a million dollars! The safe was in Forex Broker which collapsed about a month ago. They are deciding whether the gold should go to the owners of the company or to the people the company owes money to. Opinion: I think that there must of been lots of gold! Wondering: I wonder what they will do with the gold? Scientific method Will it work? What will happened to the balloon? What is going to happen? The balloon is going to inflate The balloon might pop. Materials: -Balloon -Baking Soda -Vinegar -Plastic Bottle -Funnel -Spoon FIrst use the funnel to add the baking soda to the balloon. Then put the vinegar in the bottle. Carefully put the balloon over the top of the bottle. Once you are ready lift the balloon upwards tipping the baking soda into the vinegar and watch what happens. draw/record/take a photo of what you observe When we tip the baking soda in with the vinegar the balloon inflated     There were bubbles. It was foamy The balloon inflated. The balloon We mixed an acid which is vinegar and the base which was baking soda and when the baking soda touched the vinegar there was a reaction the gas also known as CO2 inflated the balloon. CO2 is known as Carbon Dioxide.

This week we presented our IEs that we have been working on for the past term. I did my IE on Tornadoes and this is my reflection.

New Screen Time Guidelines

11.5.17 A new screen time guideline has come out and has be recreated for children and teenagers. A sleep and exercise guideline has also been recreate by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Sport NZ. The guide for a healthy 24 hours is: No more than 2 hours of screen time. Uninterrupted sleep of 9-11 hours of sleep for 5-13 year olds, and 8-10 hours of sleep for 14-17 year olds. Move more and sit less. Activities that strengthen bones and physical activities.

9.5.17 Current Events Meteor Shower Over NZ What Happened: People in New Zealand have set their alarms early so they can see a glimpse of a annual meteor shower. This passes earth once a year and is created by dust and debris from Halley’s Comet. New Zealand one of the best viewing platforms in the world because of the dark skies. The meteors were most visible from 3am to 5am on a Friday morning and a Saturday morning. Opinion: I think it is quite cool that you can wake up early to see the meteor shower! Duck Shooting

8.5.17 Duck shooting season has begun! The rainy summer helped ducks breed in the North and South Island. So far there have no reports of accidents involving duck hunters. They reminded to be safe this weekend. About 45% of reported incidents happened in the last 2 days of duck shooting season. Duck shooting season ends in August. My family and I aren’t into hunting so we don’t go, but we do hear loads of guns being fired.

North Korea VS America

1.5.17 Current Events North Korea VS America What Happened: North Korea is trying to make nuclear missiles that can cause terrible damage. Over the past couple of years they have been testing their missiles. People think that they may target the USA. North Korea isn’t currently building a missiles to travel to New Zealand. Donald Trump has been sending submarines and warships to South Korea to try get to North Korea and stop his plans. Opinion: I think World War 3 might start. Baby Looks Like Ed Sheeran

2.5.17 A 2 year old in the UK looks exactly like Ed Sheeran. The 2 year old’s name is Isla Walter and his mum always mentions about how Isla looks like Ed Sheeran. They have no relation to Ed Sheeran but would like to meet him because they are huge fans. A man from Shrewsbury, England saw the photo and posted it on Twitter. The Photo went viral and had over 180,000 likes and 82,000 retweets.
