Today for iDrive I did carpentry with Luke, Heath and Finn. We were planning on making a bike but then we changed our minds so we made a foam pit and a sign with cool logos on a piece of paper. The skills we showed were problem solving, communication, questioning, fun and collaboration. The learning power we needed was connecting because we had to communicate to each other so we knew what everyone was doing.

High Jump

Here I am practising the scissor jump in high jump. I started running from the left side because it is my comfortable side. The bar was low at the start, then it went a bit higher and I was able to jump both heights. I found the scissor jump quite easy because all you had to do was jump over the bar like scissors.

Labour Day Holiday

Image
In New Zealand Labour day is a public holiday and it is the fourth Monday in October. We have this day off because of a carpenter by the name of Samuel Parnell who came to work in New Zealand in 1840 and  refused to work more than eight hours a day. He fought to have the eight hour day in Wellington and won the right. Many workers that live in New Zealand take the spare time to relax and go away on the long weekend. Labour day was first celebrated on October, 28, 1890 in New Zealand.

Holiday Recount

In the holidays I went to play golf with my dad and brothers and I also went to the park to play with my friend Mason. On Wednesday the 30th of September we played golf and did the first ten holes. My favourite hole to play on is hole two because it is a short and  an easy hole. I saw my friend Nathan their playing golf aswell. I used a driver to tee off at all holes because that is what you are supposed to use and after that I used a iron because you always use it once you have teed off with your driver. Then I used a picture because you use it when you are close to the green and I used a putter to hit my ball onto the green. A putter is used to putt the ball into the hole. I enjoyed playing golf with my brothers and my dad. I went to the Ngatea park to play with my friend Mason and first we played tackle ball rush. There were two of my brothers playing and Mason’s sister and brother playing. First in was Mason’s brother and he tackled one of my brothers. They then tackled my ot...

Today for iDrive I did role-play with Nathan, Luke, Heath and Finn. Our play name was The Crazy Farm because there is a cow listening to music and a milk tanker guy riding a bull. The skills I needed were collaboration and communication. I used collaboration because we had to  work  as a team and I used communication because we had to communicate a lot. The learning power I used was resilience because we made mistakes and it is ok to make mistakes. I enjoyed doing the play.

Art Reflection

Image
For art this term I did a 3D letter art. I did a 3D J because my name starts with J and we had to personalize our letter. I personalized my letter by putting a few photos of me playing rugby and I made some cardboard rugby balls, and a goal post. I had a light green background for my letter and I enjoyed doing 3D letters because I had lots of fun.

Student Conference Reflection

Image
On Friday the 11th of September my school had a Student Conference Day. Our Student Conference is about choosing 4 workshops that were on a booklet that you get given and you choose what you want to do. You get 3 options for one breakout just in case you don't get your first or second choice. My first workshop that I went to was the technology challenge. We got into a group of four and in my group there was Luke, Heath, Nathan and Ryan. We had to use 1 metre of string, 20 spaghetti sticks, and 1 metre of tape. We had to build the tallest structure and make it stand with a marshmallow on top. The structure we made wasn't stable so it fell. The tallest structure ever in the world was built by kindergarten kids, I think the structure the kindergarten kids made was 180cm.  After that it was morning tea and there was a tuck shop, I bought a top deck chocolate bar and the next workshop I did was hot dog pasta. First we had to cut a hot dog sausage into about 4 equal sizes. Then we ...

Today for iDrive I did basketball shots with Mason, Heath, Luke and Finn. We played for about an hour and a half, we also made the hoops go up so its higher and it goes down so its lower.  My favourite part was when I took a shot from a far distance. The skills we needed were having fun, and the learning powers are being me. The being me learning power is because you need to choose your attitude. We played a game of basketball and it was Finn and me against Heath, Luke and Mason. The  score was 10 to us and 12 to them.

The next day we went for a walk, we started at the salt marsh which is a big walking area and we followed a path trough the mango trees and around the water ways then ended at Ferguson park. At the park we had lots of fun! The following day we played soccer at the next door neighbours house and spent most of the day there. His name was Tyrone and After we played soccer we ate some grape fruit. It was really sour. For dinner we had chicken chasseur. The next day we got ready to walk up Mt. Maunganui. It took us about half an hour to get up. When got up the top we had a sandwich also we had chocolate and raspberry licorice. It was yum! The Beatles Arrive In NZ

Image
On the 21st of June 1964 the Beatles arrived in NZ. They performed in U.S.A, Hong Kong, Europe, and Australia before arriving in NZ. They arrived at Wellington Airport, where police struggled to keep the crowds behind wire fences. On June the 22nd  at the Wellington Town Hall the Beatles had their first concert and fans went wild, screaming and jumping on seats which caused a lot of damage. The same thing happened when they held concerts in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The Beatles made rock 'n' roll and pop music popular around the world.

Quote

I picked this quote because it reminds me to believe in myself. If I don't believe in myself I wouldn't be doing any sport. It's important to believe in yourself because when you believe good things happen to you in your life. When I believe in myself I can create an amazing life for myself. When I feel I can't do something, all I need to do is believe in myself and then I can achieve great things.

SRA

This week on my SRA I did a box higher than I usally would. That was because my teacher said the other SRA cards were to easy. I think its the right box for me. This is my results. I had a few fix ups to do and I fixed it up and got it right. The story was the ant lion and it was about a girl who saw a insect. The insect was an ant lion. Mothers Day

Last week on Friday it was Mothers day. I had to bring a jar for a really awesome activity. The activity was designing a jar. The materials we used were cellophane and a pipe cleaner. Mum and a I made cheqered jar so there were clear bits that you could see through and parts where it is red and put a pipe cleaner around the jar so it makes a bow. Then we went to my brothers class they made bracelets. After that we went to my other brothers class and made flowers for the jar that we designed.

Book Club

Image
Today my reading group changed  books for book club. We are reading Dunger by Joy Cowley. We had to read the first two chapters. The first was about that there not going to Queensland beacuse they didn't have enough money. The second chapter is Melissa and William thinking about doing jobs, for their grandparents to get one thousand dollars each from them.

WW1 Mascots

Image
Today I read about the animals that were in the War. Some of the animals were horses, dogs, cats, monkeys, goats, donkeys and pigeons. Some animals were there to carry heavy things and other animals went as mascots. A mascot is used to represent a group of people or a team. The mascots are there to make them remember home and to make them happy. Some people thought their mascot would be good luck. When the war ended some soldiers put their mascot in their clothes because they didn't want to leave them behind. I read about two special mascots. Their names were Pelorus Jack 1 and Pelorus Jack 2. They were bulldogs and their collars can be found at the Auckland museum.
