WW1 Mascots

Today I read about the animals that were in the War. Some of the animals were horses, dogs, cats, monkeys, goats, donkeys and pigeons. Some animals were there to carry heavy things and other animals went as mascots. A mascot is used to represent a group of people or a team. The mascots are there to make them remember home and to make them happy. Some people thought their mascot would be good luck.

When the war ended some soldiers put their mascot in their clothes because they didn't want to leave them behind. I read about two special mascots. Their names were Pelorus Jack 1 and Pelorus Jack 2. They were bulldogs and their collars can be found at the Auckland museum.
