Student Conference Reflection

On Friday the 11th of September my school had a Student Conference Day. Our Student Conference is about choosing 4 workshops that were on a booklet that you get given and you choose what you want to do. You get 3 options for one breakout just in case you don't get your first or second choice. My first workshop that I went to was the technology challenge. We got into a group of four and in my group there was Luke, Heath, Nathan and Ryan. We had to use 1 metre of string, 20 spaghetti sticks, and 1 metre of tape. We had to build the tallest structure and make it stand with a marshmallow on top. The structure we made wasn't stable so it fell. The tallest structure ever in the world was built by kindergarten kids, I think the structure the kindergarten kids made was 180cm.

After that it was morning tea and there was a tuck shop, I bought a top deck chocolate bar and the next workshop I did was hot dog pasta. First we had to cut a hot dog sausage into about 4 equal sizes. Then we needed to stick about 4 or 5 spaghetti sticks in one piece of the sausage and I was able to put 13 spaghetti sticks in 1 piece of the hot dog sausage. Then the group that I'm with put all our hot dog sausages into to a pot to boil. Once it was ready to eat we pulled them out of the pot and the teacher put them on everyone's plate evenly. It was delicious!

After that it was lunch and I didn't have any because I was full from the hot dog pasta. The next workshop I did was coding and programming. I learned how to make my own game and learned how to make my own characters, add music to characters and how to get a background. Then it was afternoon tea and I only ate the rest of my chocolate and 2 biscuits.

The last workshop I did was science. We had a challenge and the challenge was we had  to make a magnetic circuit to pick up a paper clip. The materials that we had to use were a battery, copper wire, and a nail. First we had to get into a group of five and in my group there was Callum, Olly, Leon, and Hamish. We then tried all our ideas but none of them worked so the teacher gave us a tip. The tip was to wrap most of the copper wire around the nail. (I did that part.) Then we tried all our ideas again but none of them worked so the teacher told us that we need the wire at the top of the nail to have the negative side of the battery on top of the wire. So we did that and when we picked the nail up and had the end of the nail touch the paper clip, it worked! I couldn't believe it. After that we had to go back to our classrooms and pack up.

The workshop I enjoyed the most was making hot dog pasta. I enjoyed it because I have never made it before or had never had it before. I also enjoyed because I thought was interesting.
