Matariki

Matariki starts this week and marks the new beginning of the Maori New Year. Matariki is cluster of stars and each have a name. Their names are Te Uru O Te Rangi, Tupua a Rangi, Tupua a Nuku, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna a Rangi, Mereope. The season of its rising is late May or early June. Matariki is a celebration of remembering the dead and the beginning of a New Maori Year.
