Weekly Reflection

29.6.17 Weekly Reflection: This week I have enjoyed working on my Manga High tasks because I have gotten a gold medal on at least one of them. I have also been trying to get loads of points on Manga high. I really enjoyed the Have a Go day at the college because my group got to do Basketball and Speedball. In basketball, we played one game of basketball and then a few mini games. In Speedball we had to run around the mats and try and get the ball to score on the other teams mats. We played touch rugby rules so whenever we got touched, we had to hand the ball over.

Matariki

28.6.17 Matariki starts this week and marks the new beginning of the Maori New Year. Matariki is cluster of stars and each have a name. Their names are Te Uru O Te Rangi, Tupua a Rangi, Tupua a Nuku, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna a Rangi, Mereope. The season of its rising is late May or early June. Matariki is a celebration of remembering the dead and the beginning of a New Maori Year.

Ugliest Dog Contest

27.6.17 A dog named Martha was announced he was the winner of the 29th annual World’s Ugliest dog contest. The favourite dog won 1, 500 dollars, a trophy and a trip to New York. Martha had several surgeries after she had nearly gone blind. In second was a 16 year old Brussels Griffon Pug. In  third was 14 year old Chinese Crested Harke.

20/06/17   10 Facts About New Zealand! These are my 10 facts: Maori Settlement: The first people to arrive to New Zealand were ancestors of Maori. They arrived from Polynesia between 1200 - 1300 AD. As they were exploring the Pacific, they discovered New Zealand and were navigating by ocean currents, stars, and the winds. The First Europeans: Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, was the first European to arrive in New Zealand in 1642. Abel Tasman first called New Zealand Nieuw Zeeland. 127 years later another European came to New Zealand and his name was Captain James Cook. Captain James Cook arrived in 1769 on the first of three voyages.   The Treaty Of Waitangi: At Waitangi on 6th of February 1840, William Hobson was New Zealand’s first Governor. Longest Pizza In The World

19.6.17 The world’s longest pizza was made in California and ended up being 2km long. The pizza was produced by chefs at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. They originally planned to make the pizza 2100m in length but once they passed the record that was set in Italy, they stopped. The idea came from a group of American chefs that heard about the pizza in Italy and then they had ago at it and broke the record!

15.6.17 Weekly Reflection This week I have been working on my Duolingo and I am now level six in my Itallian. I have also been working on my Shelfie Milestone at home and I have only got to read a few more books! At the moment I am reading a Percy Jackson book. I think I need to improve on my maths because my Mangahigh tasks have been really challenging. I learnt about Jackie Robinson when I was doing my Read Theory.  

Earthquake Hits Turkey!

14.6.17 A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has hit the Greek Island of Lesbos and the western coast of Turkey and killed one woman. There were buildings shaking from the Turkish province of Izmir to the Greek capital of Athens. Huge damage was seen at a village on Lesbos. Loads of roads have been blocked by buildings that have collapsed.

A Man Goes To Jail For 35 Years

13.6.17 A man has been sent to jail for 35 years because of a facebook post that was insulting to the royal family. In Thailand laws prevent people from criticising the ultra-rich monarchy. The 34 year old was convicted by the Bangkok military court. The court punished him with seven years per count but he didn’t get 70 years of jail because he confessed so he got 35 years. Reporters were locked out of the court.

8.6.17 Weekly Reflection This week has been fun because I have been working on my Write BINGO. I really enjoyed working on my Manga High tasks because they have been really challenging. I think I need to improve on my Add and Subtract Terms With Single Letters task because I have been getting the questions wrong.

Bass Caught Using A Chicken Nugget

7.6.17 A fisherman from Texas used a Mcdonald's chicken nugget as bait when he went fishing. Matthew McNellis caught bass on Lake Bardwell. When he started to fish, he got nothing until his girlfriend suggested to use a chicken nugget. They thought they had caught a catfish but it was the biggest bass he had ever seen! The fish weighed under 11 pounds and was 24 inches long. They decided to release the fish into the sea.

No Cameras!

6.6.17 A small town in Switzerland has a new law banning cameras. If they are found using a camera, they are fined 10 NZ Dollars. Someone from the town said that the town is beautiful and will cause extreme sadness if a picture was seen on social media. It is scientifically proven that beautiful photos of vacations on social media make the viewers of the photo sad because they cannot be there themselves.
