Labour Day 2016

Labour Day Labour Day in New Zealand is a public holiday where many workers and school students take time to enjoy and relax the spare time they have. Labour Day is on a Monday and people go on little trips on the long weekend. In New Zealand during the 19th century, workers tried to claim the right for an eight hour day of working. In New Zealand, carpenter Samuel Parnell fought the right in 1840 and won! In New Zealand Labour Day was first celebrated on October 29th 1910. On Labour Day my family went to the cricket nets for five hours!

Learning In The Making Conference On week one Friday Term 4, I participated in the Learning In The Making Conference. I really enjoyed the day! THE MAD SCIENTIST RETURNS!!! My first workshop was The Mad Scientist Returns! We had to try get a balloon as far as we could go along a line of fishing line. I worked with Daniel and the materials we had to use were: A straw, tape, and a balloon. TEAM CHALLENGE!!! My second workshop was Team Challenge! What we had to do was use communication and teamwork. We had to get to our number that were on these pads. GODS EYE!!! In this workshop we used different colours of wool and wrapped it around sticks in the shape of a t. I really enjoyed this workshop! ELECTRONICS In my last workshop we used the power source of a battery to make a light buzz! When we finished that we played a few games of Ball Rush and Eye Murderer. This was my favourite workshop!

Holiday Recount

“SIX!!!” In the holidays I went to the Sangha Cricket Academy in Te Puna and there were nine of us at the academy. We practised catching, bowling, driving, and I think I am the best at bowling. The academy had one big pitch where you could pull a net to split it into 2 pitches. We got drinks and free lunch. One night my Dad, brothers and I stayed the night at the academy. My favourite part was bowling because I got 2 wickets. Also in the holidays I went to the movies with Cooper and we watched Pete’s Dragon, it was really cool. Then we went to the wharf to have lunch and we had hot chips for lunch. Once we had lunch we went to the Thames Mining School. We looked at different rocks and we had a tour of the museum. I found it interesting. After that we went to the park to play. I had lots of fun in the holidays!

Polystyrene Homework Challenge

Image
Polystyrene Homework Challenge’ First I thought that I would do a tree hut, so started collecting sticks. But then I thought that maybe that was going to bit a hard, so I changed my idea to a man-hut instead of a man-cave. I got some help from my mum and dad. My mum helped me glue the sticks on the cardboard and my dad helped me hollow it out a bit. First I had to collect the materials I needed and while I was doing that, my dad hollowed a bit out of my polystyrene. Then I glued the sticks onto the cardboard. I let it dry over night. I then wrapped the cardboard around the polystyrene and stuck nails in so they wouldn’t go right through. After that I painted the white bit above the cardboard green so it looked like grass. I then got lots of twigs and put them in gaps between the cardboard and the polystyrene. I also glued some the the sticks around the polystyrene. I am Finished! After I finished I thought that I did good. I really enjoyed it and I am pro...

The Meaning Of Easter

Image
Easter is a holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and Holy week is the week before Easter. Easter eggs represent new life and we celebrate it. The first ever Easter bunny legend was recorded in the 1500s. Every year there are over 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies made. The Christian church year is an entire season of Easter. Easter is the oldest festival and most important festival of the Christian church and Good Friday is also called Holy Friday. It is traditional to eat hot cross buns on Good Friday. The pastry cross on the hot cross buns symbolise and remind Christians of the cross Jesus was killed on. On Easter our family comes down and celebrate...
